The Society was founded as a charitable organisation in 1979 for the promotion of classical music. Since then it has featured many internationally renowned orchestra and artists such as:

The committee members who arrange, promote and organise the concerts are all volunteers drawing on their professional and business experience. All the artists, without exception, have expressed their admiration for the Society's professional approach to concert management and their appreciation of the warm reception they have received from the audience.

The annual series consists of 6 concerts given between October and May.

The concerts have received excellent reviews in the national, regional and local press; and some concerts have been recorded or broadcast live by the BBC.

Rochdale is well situated in Lancashire on the M62 motorway. This brings in a wide audience, and the Society has subscribers from as far afield as the North Midlands and the Lake District.

The 2008-9 season's concerts will be held mainly in the Heywood Civic Centre, Heywood., which has a free car park and licensed bar. For tickets contact: Rochdale Tourist Information Centre, Tel: 01706 864928
