Intro
Our Mission Statement
The Rochdale Centre of Diversity (RCD) works in partnership with a wide range of organisations, towards a just society which values diversity and in which everyone has an equal chance to live, learn and work free from the fear of racial discrimination and prejudice and free from the fear of racial harassment and violence.
Over Arching Vision
We also have an overarching vision, which we share with our partner organisations and the people of Rochdale and the Townships - Middleton, Heywood and the Pennines. These are as follows: -
- To have a thriving place where people want to live, work, visit and do business - a place in which we can all take pride
- Where we celebrate our ethnic and cultural diversity, and have good race relations and positive links with other parts of the world. We respect and maintain our heritage.
- Where local people are active citizens and have a say in their future. We are seen as a national model for partnerships between local people and organisations
In addition to its original aims, to promote equal opportunities and good race relations, The Centre of Diversity in its new role has set itself 4 further strategic aims and these are as follows: -
- Provide leadership on issues of equality and diversity across the private and public sectors in pursuance of equality, equity, diversity and fair treatment for everyone;
- Provide access to advice, information, guidance and resources to anyone who needs it to promote equality and diversity amongst the people, institutions and organisations;
- Provide independent audit, scrutiny and inspection for institutions, agencies and public bodies in their endeavors to promote equality and diversity in line with anti discrimination legislation;
- Provide a place for learning and living, whilst reflecting the towns diversity of cultures, faiths and communities in all its activities by establishing a unique centre of excellence.
