Appeal following road accident in Heywood
Date published: 04/04/2008
A road in Heywood, closed following a serious road traffic collision, has reopened.
Shortly after 7.05 am today, Friday 4 April, police were called to Manchester Road, close to its junction with Coronation Avenue, Heywood, following reports a Vauxhall Astra had collided with a skip wagon.
Police attended and found the driver of the Astra, believed to be in his 20s, with serious injuries. He was taken to Fairfield Hospital where he remains in a critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
Police believe there was a bus either driving or had stopped on Manchester Road close to the scene and are appealing for anyone that may have been on the bus to contact them.
Inspector Martin O'Connor of the Road Policing Unit said: "This was a particularly nasty collision and one man has been left fighting for his life.
"It is vital for us to speak to witnesses so we can try and establish exactly what happened.
"We believe there was a single-decker bus on Manchester Road at the time of the incident. I would appeal to anyone that was on that bus just after seven o'clock this morning, and who may have seen the collision, to contact us."
Anyone that witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Road Policing Unit on 0161 856 847.
