Pupils suspended for going on strike at Matthew Moss School
Date published: 19/05/2006
Matthew Moss School was in uproar on Wednesday (17 May) when pupils went 'on strike'.
The reason for the pupils dissent was that at lunchtime and breaks students have been locked outside the school, when previously they had been allowed in and out as they wished. This resulted in students who wanted to go out finding themselves locked in and vice versa.
In protest, 32 students from years 7 to 11 decided on a sit-out on the school field throughout periods five and six.
The school claims to have nipped the problem in the bud and the 32 pupils have been suspended.
When contacted by Rochdale Online, Vice Chairman of School Governers, Ian Birchenough, confirmed he had heard "the rumours" but would not comment further.
New Liberal Democrat Education Portfolio holder, David Clayton, was unaware of the incident when contacted last night (Thursday 18 May).
