Rochdale police station evacuated

Rochdale police station on the Esplanade was evacuated this afternoon, Friday 12 May 2006, as a result of possible structural damage during building work on the fourth floor.

Shortly before 3pm the whole building was evacuated, including the custody suite, as a precaution. Prisoners were detained in vans for a short period of time until the building was declared safe at 3.45pm.

The police station is now re-open and building engineers have confirmed there is no structural damage.
