Police crackdown on cash in transit robberies

Greater Manchester Police has announced it is stepping up the fight against robberies on cash-handling vehicles.
Over the next few months, police officers will work together with the industry that manages cash collections and deliveries to safeguard their vehicles during delivery and pick-up times, by using both high-visibility and covert patrols.
The operation, codenamed Liaison, will see officers escorting high-risk security vehicles as they carry out their normal deliveries. Officers will use a variety of resources to prevent robberies against cash-handling vehicles including patrol cars, firearms officers, CCTV monitoring, police dogs and air support.
Detective Chief Inspector Shaun Gore, Force Operation Policing Unit Manager said: “Cash-in-transit robberies are taken very seriously by Greater Manchester Police and by working in partnership with the cash-handling industry, we hope to use all the powers available to us to crack down on the offenders who make the lives of businesses and the public a misery.
