Rochdale MBC Councillor wins Motorcyclists Rights
Date published: 19/01/2006
After nine month’s research and evidence gathering and sheer persistence, Labour Councillor, Alan McCarthy, has fought and won acceptance of a Powered Two Wheel Strategy to be included in the forthcoming Local Transport Plan for Greater Manchester as a component strategy.
Although the Strategy is only in a basic draft at present Cllr McCarthy hopes the final strategy to be completed in 2006 will take into account:
- Possible bus lane usage.
- A bikesafe scheme run in conjunction with the police over the whole of Greater Manchester to address the safety issue.
- A parking policy that would be free of charge, secure, signed and with adequate parking in new developments.
- Address the problem of street furniture siting to avoid hazards paying particular attention to the exposed posts in safety fencing and ensuring roads are maintained with a good surface condition and also making new road layouts rider friendly.
