Recycling Winners in Prize Draw

Four more residents have recently benefited from the recycling competition run by Rochdale Council and United Co-operatives.

The winners were Mrs Kettle from Heywood, Joan Shaw from Rochdale, Harry Wood from Middleton and Frank Memory from Milnrow, each of who received a £50 voucher from United Co-operatives.

The presentation took place at the Council’s Environmental Management HQ in Heywood Michael Fairclough from United Co-operatives and Councillor Ann Metcalfe, portfolio holder for the Environment.

Councillor Metcalfe said:

“This is a great incentive to encourage more people to recycle. We must work together to achieve our target of 20% if we are to avoid the fines of £150 per tonne. Recycling is the responsibility of every member of every household in our borough.”

The scheme is open to any residents (currently on the kerbside collection), who put out their recycling over the two weekly collection cycle. Each resident is given a prize draw entry form that they complete and put back in their kerbside box for collection on the next allocated day. Residents are therefore encouraged to put out their recycling box out more often, thus recycling more.  All the entry cards are collected and then put into a prize draw.

Michael Fairclough of United Co-operatives added:

“As a community retailer, United Co-operatives is delighted to be involved with this initiative which encourages local residents to recycle their rubbish. We all need to work together to encourage people to recycle more and create a cleaner community.”
