More Success for Deeplish Community

Date published: 15/08/2005

Locals in Deeplish are working hard to improve their community, and proved their success at the Annual General Meeting at Deeplish Community Centre this week.

The meeting, aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour and providing advice and guidance for locals, has proved to be ‘yet another success’ according to Paul Rowen MP for Rochdale.

He said: “2005 has been yet another year of success for Deeplish Community Centre. Along with Sure Start and the clinic, the centre remains very much at the heart of the community.”

“Well done to the many groups and individuals who make Deeplish such a welcoming and successful Community Centre, it is a privilege to be able to represent them, both as a local councillor and as the Member of Parliament.”

Also present was the Mayor of Rochdale Ashley Dearnley, Mayoress Beryl Wright and Councillor Angela Coric, who all congratulated manager Sohail Ahmad for making the Deeplish Community Centre what it is today.

Taj Mohammed, Chairman of Deeplish Community Centre said: "Over the past year Deeplish Community Centre has actively promoted its services to ensure that the needs of the community are met."

“The centre is a safe and secure environment with a strong community spirit and excellent opportunities and choices.”

“We work hard alongside the police and offer support to locals who may be victims of anti- social behaviour or drug misuse, and this is important in a community.”

To lighten up the meeting for the younger members of the meeting, activities took place such as poetry reading, badge making, face painting and a bouncy castle, plus a variety of Asian food was served.
