Goldilocks and the Three Bears

This year's MAD panto, Goldilocks and the Three Bears played to capacity audiences each night and by general agreement was the best yet; and that is saying something for a theatre group that has been staging spectacular performances for many years.
One of the favourite quotes from the audience was "What do you think of the show so far?" from the baddie and the immediate response "FANTASTIC" from a 5 year old too young to know the Generation Game! The other was a concerned four year old telling her mummy in the interval "I tried to warn Goldilocks, but I don’t think she can hear me!" That is what panto is all about!
This year’s effort was expertly directed with strangulated patience by Maureen Davenport. Peter Wardaugh starred as the Dame Sadie Spangle whose run down circus is rescued by the appearance in the ring of the 3 Bears.
This revival of fortune is short lived as the evil Benjamin Black (Peter Dignam) aided by local celebrity solicitor Jon Platt in the guise of Pedro the Gypsy whisk them away, along with poor Goldilocks. But joy oh joy, good triumphs over evil as Ronnie the Ringmaster, played by Zoe Howarth in a leggy and excellent debut performance for MADs, rallies the circus troops to the rescue!
The carefully crafted sets played well alongside the stunningly colourful costumes and the whole show was set alight by the incredible dancing of the Beryl Johnson dance troupe. A great evening out: roll on next year’s event: Frankenstein the Pantomime!
