Christmas Public Transport Guide Now Available

Date published: 06/12/2004

GMPTE is encouraging public transport users to pick up a copy of the new Christmas and New Year timetable booklet – now available from outlets throughout the county.

The guide, which provides a summary of bus, train and tram service operations between 24th December and 3rd January, can be found at GMPTE Travelshops and other local outlets throughout Greater Manchester. Copies can also be requested by calling 0161 242 6040 (lines open 24 hours) or you can download the booklet in PDF format here.

For full information on individual services, passengers are advised to call Traveline on 0161 228 7811 or 0870 608 2 608. Timetable information and a web-based Journey Planner can be accessed via the GMPTE website at www.gmpte.com

Michael Renshaw, GMPTE’s Interim Service Delivery Director, said: “As usual, there will be a reduced level of public transport services operating over Christmas and New Year. However, commercial public transport operators will be running bus, train and tram services on most days over the festive period. It’s pleasing to see that so many operators are providing a decent level of services for people who need to get to work on the days surrounding the festive holidays."

“On New Year’s Eve, the Nightbus networks centred in Manchester, Wigan and Bolton will be running well into the early hours, providing plenty of opportunity for many people to get home safely."

“I urge anyone travelling around Greater Manchester over the festive period to get hold of a copy of our summary booklet to see if public transport could be an option for their journey. More comprehensive information on individual services is just a phone call away by ringing our public transport information line.”

Traveline opening times over the festive period are:
Friday 24 December – 7am – 6pm
Saturday 25 December – Closed
Sunday 26 December – Closed
Monday 27 – Thursday 30 December – 8am – 8pm
Friday 31 December – 8am – 6pm
Saturday 1 January – Closed
Sunday 2 January – 8am – 8pm
