Energy improvement tips for landlords

Date published: 28/05/2008

Residential landlords from across the borough are being invited to attend the next Rochdale Landlord Accreditation Scheme (LAS) Landlord Forum on 4 June, organised by Rochdale Council, where they will get the opportunity to learn more about Energy Performance Certificates ahead of their introduction in October.

To be held at the Top Tier Grill Restaurant (behind Soccer Village) in Milnrow, the event will host guest speakers, including independent energy performance expert Barry Fayre, who will discuss the issues surrounding Energy Performance Certificates, and what residential landlords need to do in order to comply going forward.

From October, Energy Performance Certificates will be a mandatory requirement for all private sector landlords before they can let their properties out to tenants.

Paul Gordziejewic, Private Sector Housing Manager: comments: "Increasingly, residential landlords are having to take more measures in order to comply with current and forthcoming legislation.

"The Landlord Forum on 4 June will give private housing landlords in the borough the opportunity to meet the experts who can point them in the right direction and help make their lives easier before Energy Performance Certificate legislation takes effect in October."

In addition, representatives from Rochdale Council will be presenting feedback regarding the introduction of the Local Housing Allowance (the new method of working out housing benefit for private tenants). Private Sector Development Manager Gill Lucas will cover the ways in which the Rochdale LAS can help make properties more energy efficient.

Registration takes place at 6.15pm, 4 June at the Top Tier Grill Restaurant, Wildhouse Lane, Milnrow, OL16 3TW. A buffet and the opportunity to network with other landlords will take place from 8.00pm.

Spaces for the Landlord Forum event are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis. To confirm your attendance, please contact the accreditation team.
