Date article online: 16/05/2008

Volunteers' Week is a national celebration of volunteers and volunteering which takes place from 1st - 7th of June of each year. It plays a huge part in raising the profile of England's 22 million volunteers while encouraging others to get involved.

The Volunteer Centre Rochdale Borough is hosting an "Opportunities for the Future" event at Rochdale Town Hall.

The day will see the formal launch of the new Rochdale Borough 'vinvolved' programme, supported by 'vinvolved' - the national youth volunteering programme. Locally the new 'vinvolved' programme will look to deliver over 4,000 new volunteering opportunities for young people over a period of three years.

A spokeswoman said: "The launch of 'vinvolved' locally will be the starting point for this exciting new youth volunteering programme, which will mark a step change in youth volunteering and participation. In addition the Rochdale Borough Five Year Volunteering Strategy will be launched."
