Former Lib Dem Mayor defects to the Conservatives

Former Mayor and Liberal Democrat Councillor, Rodney Stott has defected to the Conservatives. Mr Stott's wife Anne has been a long term Conservative and both have now joined the local party. They said the decison was not a sudden one, rather it is a conclusion that has developed over time.

Conservative spokesman Ian Duckworth said: "The Conservatives on the Council have come not only to admire Rodney over the years but also feel a real affection for him, especially during his recent illness. To us Anne and Rodney are our kind of people - who have always done our town and themselves proud.

"We are overjoyed to publicly welcome them both into the Conservative Party."
