Students’ business lunch raises funds for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 30/01/2008

Local business people were invited to Hopwood Hall College to enjoy a three course meal organised by students studying for a Certificate in Administration, in order to raise vital funds for Springhill Hospice.

Administration tutor Yvonne Warburton said: "Our students have been heavily involved in fundraising for Springhill Hospice over the years and last year raised £2,500.  This year we are aiming to increase this total.  As well as using traditional collection boxes to raise funds, the students are pulling out all the stops and taking part in a range of activities such as bag packing at ASDA and Morrison’s stores, a college tombola and raffle and henna and hair braiding.

"The students raised money on the day by holding a raffle and having a hospice stand selling branded merchandise. The firms that attended the lunch all provide work placements from November to May for students on the course and included: Isherwood amp; Hose, JHMS Secretarial Support, Springhill Hospice, United Springs, Zen Internet and her Majesty Inspector of Taxes. It was a great opportunity for college staff to meet with placement providers and develop a keener understanding of the needs of local industries in order to prepare students for employment."
