National Recognition for Rochdale Connections Trust
Date published: 03/06/2006
The Mayor of Rochdale, Cllr Jean Hornby, and Paul Rowen MP and many other public spirited movers and shakers gathered at 60 Drake Street Rochdale on Thursday 1 June to listen to the Chairwoman Vivien Carter JP DL, Mentors, Staff, and three of the youngsters tell of the life changing work Rochdale Connections Trust (RCT) is doing in Rochdale.
The event was to launch the "Friends of RCT" group who will help support the Charity in many ways.
The main problem is the withdrawal of Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF) funding which last year provided the charity with £40,000 to continue its good work. This year, along with most voluntary sector organisations, it has not been awarded a penny. Naturally it has appealed.
The Chairwoman was able to reveal that it would be announced tomorrow that RCT has been chosen out of the thousands of charities nationwide to win a Queens Award for Volunteers.
Rochdale Online Director John Kay, who is also a Director/Trustee of RCT said to the meeting: "If the Charity can be so recognised nationally, then surely Local Funders should support it. If they do not, then they risk shooting themselves in the foot. I wait to see all the wonderful schemes to which they have awarded money in preference to the good work of this award winning local charity."
