Date published: 08/06/2006
A 75-year-old Rochdale man has certainly proved the adage that you can't teach an old dog new tricks wrong by winning Northern Employment Services Temp of the Year Award. Ray Clegg beat off competition from 12 other hopefuls to scoop the award.
A presentation ceremony was held at the Federal Mogul site in Rochdale, where Ray is currently working, on Wednesday 7 June to honour his achievements and celebrate National Temporary Workers Week. The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Jean Hornby, was in attendance to present Ray with his award.
Mr Clegg has been a temporary worker for Northern Employment Services for 10 years and is currently working at Federal Mogul where he has proved himself to be a much loved and vital member of the workforce.
The Temp of the Year award was held by Northern Employment Services to celebrate both their 13 years of trading and National Temporary Workers Week.
On winning the award, Mr Clegg says: "This award has really come as a shock to me but it just goes to show that once you hit 65 life doesn’t stop, many people of my age still have a lot to offer in the workplace."
A Northern Employment Services spokesperson said: "Ray has always been a model temporary worker. He is reliable, punctual, flexible, hard working, and is a credit to Northern Employment Services.
"Over the 10 years that Ray has worked for Northern Employment Services we have always had excellent feedback from the client companies he has been assigned to, and his timekeeping and attendance records have been exemplary.
"Ray is a much-valued member of our temporary team and we are proud to have him as part of our organisation."
