Get On Your Bike for Springhill
Date published: 15/08/2006
On 6 November 2005, Springhill Hospice made history when they arranged for the worlds biggest bike to come to Rochdale for the very first Springhill Sponsored Spokes Competition.
This year the event will take place on Sunday 29 October and along with the Halloween fancy dress theme and activities arranged at the venue - the Litten Tree Pub, Town Hall Square - it promises to be a day to remember.
Teams already confirmed are the Hospice Harriers, the Litten Tree Rochdale and the Litten Tree Oldham. The Hospice is looking for two more teams to complete the competition and make the day a big success.
The teams that took part in 2005 were Springhill Hospice Harriers, Fitness First, the Litten Tree, Waggon Inn Loonies and Woodside Medical Centre, who rode the 25-seater around a 6km route.
Each individual member of the team that took part was asked to raise money through sponsorship, which then entered him or her into the competition. The winning team was the Waggon Inn Loonies who raised the most amount of money and won a plaque on the Hospice Friendship Wall, along with many other prizes.
The bike had been used to raise funds for various charities over the years and has been ridden by many high profile characters including members of the Emmerdale and Fame Academy cast and in total the event raised over £4000, which was an incredible result!
Anyone who is interested in securing a place in this exciting challenge as an individual or as part of a team, should contact Leyla Nejad on (01706) 711144.
