Tailbacks to Huddersfield after lorry jack-knifes on M62
Date published: 23/08/2006
At 9.30am on Monday 21 August, police received a report of a road traffic collision involving a lorry on the M62 westbound, just before junction 21 at Rochdale.
The lorry, which was carrying steel tubes, jack-knifed and collided with barriers at the side of the motorway. The driver was not injured.
The HGV has now been recovered, but due to concerns about the amount of diesel spilt and damage to the motorway, the carriageway was reduced to one lane for a 400 yard stretch for several hours, while gritting and further inspection of the road took place.
Lanes two and three were later opened past the scene. Police then left the area and the Highways Agency are now dealing with the incident.
Traffic queued back to Junction 24 at Huddersfield, and drivers already on the motorway were warned to expect long delays and find alternative routes if possible.
