Mayor opens Fairtrade market stall
Date article online: 06/10/2006
The Mayor, Councillor Jean Hornby, officially opened the first Fairtrade Market stall on Rochdale Market on Friday 6 October.
This is a social enterprise called 'Fair For All'. Its aim is to complement the present retail outlets, church and community representatives who currently sell fairly traded goods, by offering goods to a wider clientele.
Items for sale will include food, jewellery and gifts. The stall will be open all day on 6 and 7 October and then every Saturday from the end of October.
Commenting on the opening of the stall, Jan Hicks of Rochdale Fairtrade Forum said: "We hope that what we are doing assists in some small way in making poverty history."
