Amy Hannan leaving Crimson Scarlet
Date published: 17/02/2008
Fans of local band Crimson Scarlet have been shocked at the news that vocalist Amy Hannan is to leave the band, in fact, Monday evening (18 February), will be the last time Miss Hannan plays any part in Crimson Scarlet, as she puts the finishing touches to the vocals on the new CD, Miss Lane.
Miss Hannan is getting married in August and has realised she cannot prepare for her wedding and give the commitment the band demands to maintain their high performance standards.
She said: "I need to take a break to sort my wedding out. I know it's come as a shock to the band and to fans of the band, and I'm really sorry for that."
She added: "I want to thank the members of the band for letting me sing with such a great bunch of musicians for the past year, it's been great experience for me."
Band spokesman Malcolm Journeaux said: "We are very sorry to lose Amy, she has a great voice and it has been a pleasure working with her for the past year. We do though recognise that we ask for a lot of commitment and if Amy, with obviously good reason, is no longer able to give that commitment then we are pleased she has been frank with us and done the right thing for the band as well as her and her husband to be. It of course does nothing to lessen the blow, but such is life."
Guitarist John Butterworth, who is also producing the CD said: "It is perhaps fitting that Amy's swansong with the band is to record a CD that consists of her two favourite Crimson Scarlet songs, Miss Lane and Still You Let Me In."
Veteran of many Crimson Scarlet gigs, Linda Phillips said: "I have listened to Amy sing with the band at quite a few events and thought she fitted in well, she has a lovely voice and has done justice to the songs written by the members of Crimson Scarlet."
The search is now on for a new vocalist and there has been a very good response to an advert the band placed online, with the first audition due to take place on Friday.

The CD is expected to be available by April.
