Rochdale Annual Dinner – A great success!

Date published: 19/12/2006

The Rochdale Annual Dinner was a great success, with people travelling from as far afield as London and Brussels packing Rochdale Town Hall.  The event, a celebration of a successful year for the party went smoothly and Guest Speaker, Liberal Democrat Environment Spokesperson, Chris Huhne MP, spoke about his time in Parliament and about his Green Tax Initiatives and congratulated the local party for their success.

Paul Rowen MP said: "Chris Huhne MP is doing an excellent job in Parliament and it was good to welcome him to Rochdale.  The Annual Dinner is a great opportunity for our party to get together informally and celebrate our continued success in the Borough.  The historic Town Hall in Rochdale is an excellent venue and it was certainly a fitting backdrop to an excellent evening."

Other speakers at the event included Sir Cyril Smith MP who shared anecdotes from his time as an MP.  Other people attending included Leader of Rochdale Council, Councillor Alan Taylor, Chris Davies MEP, former Political Editor of the BBC in the North West, Jim Hancock and Chesterfield Councillor Tony Rodgers.

Leader of Rochdale Council, Councillor Alan Taylor said: "This was our most successful event for many years and we are extremely grateful that one of our most high profile MP’s Chris Huhne came to speak to us.  He has done a superb job in Parliament and we were delighted to hear first hand of how the environment is the central part of Liberal Democrat campaigning nationally just like Rochdale.  Chris is a huge asset to the party and we have absolutely no doubt that he will continue his great start."
