Severe rail disruption in the North West

Date published: 18/01/2007

Due to the extreme weather conditions and high winds rail services have been severely disrupted. Passengers have been advised to find an alternative method of transport wherever possible. Passengers are advised to contact the relevant train operating company for updates as to what services are running.

Services are expected to be severely disrupted throughout the course of the afternoon and evening. Presently services out of a number of stations are affected.

Officers from British Transport Police have been called to a number of incidents throughout the North West. These incidents largely relate to debris on the tracks. BTP Officers and Police Community Support Officers are also on duty at stations where possible to assist passengers and rail staff.

A number of stations have now been closed.

Network rail are in process of assessing the situation and any updates will be released as soon as possible.
