School children create Mosaic to decorate Falinge
Date published: 29/02/2008
Visitors and residents of Lower Falinge Flats can now enjoy a beautiful mosaic created by local children.
The mosaic, on a wall at the entrance, which reads 'Welcome to Falinge Flats' was produced as part of the Big Clean 08, a series of community clean-ups and planting events across the borough to improve the environment.
Children from the 'Sunny Falinge Crew', a nearby after school club, helped with the mosaic, together with pupils from Spotland Primary school, who planted shrubs.
Jackie Robinson, a Community Youth Worker from Roftra, who runs the 'Sunny Falinge Crew', said she was really proud of everyone's efforts: "They have worked hard and achieved a great deal in such a short space of time. The children are delighted with the end result and its been a great project for them to be involved with."
Staff from Rochdale Borough Council constructed a rockery nearby to complete the improvements.
The Big Clean 08 was funded by Neighbourhood Renewal and supported by Rochdale Borough Council and the Urban Gallery.
