PCT health services to welcome patients to new premises

Some patients will be treated in new accommodation in Heywood from 1 August 2007 now that health services have successfully completed a move from the Birch Hill Hospital Site.

Community NHS services such as:

• Adult and Children’s Physiotherapy
• Children’s Occupational Therapy
• Speech and Language Therapy
• Posture and Mobility Assessment Centre (formerly known as the Wheelchair Access Centre)

are now all based at Callaghan House (previously known as Peninsula House), Cross Street (off Green Lane) Heywood, OL10 2DY. 

Current patients of the above services have been kept informed of the moving arrangements and any changes to their appointments during the process of the move. Patient letters and leaflets were issued that explained why the relocation from Birch Hill Hospital site to new premises in Heywood was needed and when it would happen. Maps, directions, transport routes and timetables were shared with patients to help them find the new premises.

Primary Care Trust (PCT) staff have been working hard to ensure there has been minimal disruption to patient care throughout the relocation process. Temporary clinics were held in alternative accommodation wherever possible and many patients were offered care and treatment in their own home.

Liz Cobby, Head of Operations and Facilities Management, said: "To relocate so many community based health services within a tight timescale was a huge task. We did our utmost to reduce any inconvenience to patients, maintaining as many clinics as possible whilst the move took place. I am pleased to say that over the next few weeks services will become fully operational. I hope our patients will enjoy the new health facilities based in Heywood."

Both PCT staff and patients will benefit from new facilities at Callaghan House that include new gym facilities and treatment and assessment rooms.
