Have your say on town centre regeneration

Date published: 05/09/2007

Whether you love shopping, enjoy eating out or want to see more leisure opportunities on your doorstep, there's never been a better time to have your say on future regeneration activity in the Rochdale borough.

For five weeks, starting today Wednesday 5 September, Rochdale Council is asking residents and people with an interest in the borough to have their say on the future of Rochdale town centre.

Multi million pound investments are being planned.

This is all happening in the Town Centre East area, between Yorkshire Street and the river. The existing bus station, multi storey car park and Municipal Offices could be replaced by major new developments; with new shops, café's, leisure facilities, open spaces, housing, a new bus station, new Council offices, a Metrolink terminus and lots more.

An Area Framework has been prepared to help guide this development and determine future planning applications.

Cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Sharif said: "Rochdale town centre has immense potential and it's important that local people have their say on how it will look in years to come. We want to create a town centre that everyone can be proud of and we are keen to listen to what people tell us. I would encourage everyone who has an interest in the borough and the prosperity of the town centre to have a look at the proposals and have their say before the October deadline."

If you want more information you can pick up a leaflet, with a Freepost response form attached, at all libraries, some community centres and at council information points across the borough or go to the council's website www.rochdale.gov.uk and fill in the online response form.

If you want to talk to the council about the regeneration the Council is advising you to attend one of the following staffed exhibitions:

  • Friday 7 September      9am - 4.30pm    Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre
  • Saturday 8 September    9am - 4.30pm    Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre
