Yorkshire Street paves the way for thriving town centre
Date published: 16/10/2007
It's good news for businesses and shoppers alike, as Rochdale Borough Council hs been awarded more cash to improve the town centre.
Over half a million pounds of work has already begun on Yorkshire Street, between Baillie Street and the Wheatsheaf Centre, including natural stone paving and street furniture.
Funders were so impressed with the works taking place, that they have awarded further funding to extend the works to reach Cheetham Street, resurfacing the entire pedestrianised stretch!
Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Mohammed Sharif said: ''We are thrilled to receive this extra funding. There is a real sense of pride back within the town centre. People can start to look forward to a really pleasant shopping experience.''
The current works will end before Christmas, with phase two beginning in the New Year.
The money has come thanks to the European Regional Development Fund and the Safer Stronger Communities Fund.
