Father and son team complete Lancashire loop

A father and son team from Rochdale have completed the Lancashire Loop Cycle Challenge to fund medical equipment for children's wards and neo-natal units at hospitals across the North West.

Gary Eaton, a local paramedic, joined 14-year old son Dan and five of his colleagues to ride 54 miles each across the Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland.

Together they rode a collective 378 miles to raise £1,000 for children's charity MedEquip4Kids.

In total, more than 250 people took part in the annual bike ride, which is set to raise more than £15,000 for the Prestwich-based charity.

MedEquip4Kids is currently fundraising to provide the children’s units at Rochdale Infirmary with syringe pumps, which can administer medication in precise quantities and are essential for small children and babies.

Simon Yates, a paramedic from Radcliffe who joined Gary and Dan on the bike ride, said: “It was a fantastic day and everybody enjoyed themselves – surprisingly! It is something we will definitely do again and we are hoping to have raised about £1,000 for MedEquip4Kids.”
