Conservative's manifesto for the forthcoming local elections
Date published: 09/04/2006
Leader of the Conseravtive group on Rochdale Council, Cllr Ian Duckworth, has published the Conservative's manifesto for the forthcoming local elections on the 4 May.
The Mainfesto
The Conservatives will be tackling the local issues that blight people's lives. We will make sure legislation to deal with fly tipping, litter, abandoned cars and fly posting is implemented. Once an area becomes run down, then inevitably crime and disorder soon follow.
We will work hard to deal with youth nuisance, both with better policing and by providing sports facilities to encourage young people off the streets.
To that end we will fight a successful campaign to get a new swimming baths and leisure centre in
We will make our town centres cleaner and more welcoming by having a new bus station; more and better parking and we will continue the campaign, with the government and opposition parties to get Metrolink into
The Townships will be supported in having more decision making delegated to them, local people know best.
Council tax will be kept to a minimum without any reduction in vital services. This will help people on fixed incomes who struggle to pay increases above inflation.
Conservatives will always try and work with the other political parties and government to get what's best for our Borough. We will not oppose for oppositions sake.
Conservative councillors will always be reminded that their first responsibility is to all the people of the Ward they serve and will always be available, not just at election time
Conservatives will be fighting a positive campaign; we will stand on our policies and our record of putting local people first.
Local elections are important, if you entrust the Conservatives with your vote we won't let you down.
