As a part of The RYG Project, which is now running in 7 schools across the region, 30 young people from Siddal Moor Sports College had the chance to take part in a Graphic Design Workshop. The workshop took place at Rochdale CLC.
This event was part of the RYG Stars and Superstars Programme which offers events to students in the school who are working on target in all their subjects or have shown significant improvement so far this year. Other events in this programme include work with Manchester United FC and Blackburn Rovers FC as well as DJ workshops with a BBC One Xtra DJ and MC workshops with one of the best MC’s in the UK.
John Shepperd from RYG said, “These young people have done what they need to do in lessons in order to be here today. The RYG Stars and Superstars Programme is all about rewarding hard work and providing young people with exciting opportunities through our Community Partners, whilst at the same time giving them a framework to encourage them to focus on their performance in lessons”
During the day the students worked with a team of leading North West graphic designers learning how to use professional graphics software and creating their own posters and flyers for a fashion event.
Simon Pantling, one of the graphics artists said, “It’s great to show young people just how empowering creative software can be. It’s an engaging alternative to games software”
Remi in Year 9 said, “The day was really good. We don’t normally get the chance to do this kind of stuff”
Sarah in Year 9 said, “It was a really good day. We got the chance to meet some amazing graphic designers. Their work is impressive”
