All-In-One Show Success Benefits Groundwork
Date published: 19/08/2008
Last weekend (16 and 17 August), Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale helped All-In-One Garden Centre deliver its first Horticultural Show and Charity Fun Weekend, with over 2500 people enjoying the competition between local growers and the fun activities on offer.
Activities hosted by Groundwork included face painting, badge and mask making and seed planting workshops, keeping the whole family entertained throughout the weekend.
Stuart Brierley, Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, said: “The weekend was a great success and very enjoyable. It was good to see the quality of produce being grown locally and we are very grateful to All-In-One for the money raised over the weekend.”
Over £200 of proceeds, including a charity auction of the Horticultural Show entries, was donated by All-In-One to Groundwork to help improve the local environment.
Jack Cox, All-In-One visitor, commented: “I’ve had a really good day. I wish I’d have entered some of my vegetables into the Horticultural Show as I’m sure they could have won. The seed planting workshop for the young people was also a great idea.”
Nora Williams, one of the show judges commented: “This has been a very well organised and attended show, I can’t wait to see how many exhibitors will enter next year…this is the start of something big!”
Groundwork’s Finance Director, Stuart Brierley, presented prizes to Slattocks & District Horticultural Society, who won the £200 first prize. Milnrow Horticultural Society won second prize and Ramsbottom & District came third.
All-In-One Garden Centre have nominated Groundwork as their charity of the year with the aim of giving something back to the local communities they serve. The first partnership project is a Tree Donation Scheme – for every tree sold at the garden centre, All-In-One will donate one to Groundwork to plant in the local area.
