Help for firms to avoid disaster
Date article online: 16/05/2008
How would your business cope in the event of a serious fire, flood or major loss of computer data? Business Continuity planning is fundamental to the well being of an organisation, so Rochdale Borough Council is offering free advice to ensure companies can continue to operate in the face of unforeseen or difficult circumstances.
Any business or voluntary organisation can contact the council for tips on putting together a business continuity plan, get easy to use templates, plus expert advice and guidance.
Emergency Planning Manager David Wolstenholme said preparing for an emergency situation isn't always straightforward, so getting the right advice is invaluable: "Getting the information you need and building a plan can be a challenge without guidelines to follow, but it really is essential to protect the well being of any organisation. We can provide simple guidelines and clear templates, looking carefully at your business and its needs. If you need it we can also identify other suitable tools and suppliers."
With most insurance policies not covering for loss of customers, there is a clear financial benefit from having a business continuity plan added Mr Wolstenholme: "Most insurance companies will look kindly on you if you have a business continuity plan, and would encourage you to get one. A fire or flood could happen at any time, and mean that your business could have serious losses and lose customers before the insurance pays out."
Mr Wolstenholme is available to speak at group meetings or can offer impartial advice:
